With all of the headlines at Highpoint this market, it seems that Elton John's s song has become the slogan of the times. This is why I said that "CHANGE" is one of the hottest trends that I saw at furniture market! Here are a few of the headlines in some of the publications from market.
HOW TO SURVIVE TOUGH TIMES(stop going in the same direction), CELEBRATE THE HOME (comforting solutions in a changing world), COPING MECHANISM(Economy-conscious colors for 2010), Safe Haven, Great Escape and of course just for the younger generations RADICAL RULES.
Forcastors across the board are in agreement that the changing economic times are a major force in shaping the upcoming design trends. The furniture industry, along with Designers, Builders, Home Stagers & Realtors can help the end consumer feel safer and more certain by incorporating these upcoming trends into their product or service.
SAFE HAVEN - Consumers have a tendency in uncertain times to play it safe and this includes how they use color! Due to economic uncertainty, people are looking for colors that they perceive to be safe, said Michelle Lamb, editorial director of The Trend Curve. The new neutral tones for 2010 include Olive Gray, Taupe Gray, Silver Gray, Tea Bag, Champagne Beige and Angora. Don't all of the colors sound and feel good! It makes me want to curl up with a good book and escape.
Speaking of ESCAPE - The next generation of color and style trends. Because of the uncertainty of the times and the loud world that we live in, we all need a break! We have the desire to be transportted to somewhere other than the place we live day to day. Close your eyes and image relaxing in a far away place. What did you see? We all have different visions of escape, but they all include some form of Luxury! The color trends for this palette include, Gold Metallic, Glowing Umber, Summer Plum, Blue Macaw, Wild Orchid, Persian Violet and Granite. Again, just the names alone will make you feel more relaxed. We will also be seeing exotic, bohemian trends moving into 2010.
RADICAL RULES - This trend actually speaks to the young and old alike. With today's economic condition, we have all been forced to think outside of the box . This has taken away our "comfort zone" and has moved our minds towards a state of renewal. We are all forced to be innovative and redefine the world we live in. In color, this translates to bright passionate unexpected color choices. The unexpected color combinations and individuality of the color choices make us all smile. Look for hues that include Salsa (oh yeah!), Mesquite, Mauve Bauhaus, Yellow Finch, Seaweed, Bronze Metallic, Hummingbird, Midnight Navy,Mimosa Yellow Strawberry Ice. The cosmic brights can take on a comic book feeling. This trend attracts and speaks to the Gen. X and Gen. Y crowd like never before.
I got so wrapped up in the trend of CHANGE, I will have to come back to Reclaim and Recycle next week. Until Then...
